The Library of Rustaveli Theatre and Film University has been established in 1939, and RusudanMikeladze was appointed the first director of the library.
In 1949 during the fire in Rustaveli Theatre almost all of the Book Fund was destroyed.
The recovery of the literary fund has started with the donations of Georgian artists, writers and scientists.
Literary Fund gradually continued to enrich its unique books and periodicals bought in Rare Book Stores in Georgia and abroad. The Art Universities of Moscow and Sankt-Petersburg were also great assistance. The library also closely collaborates with the foreign embassies in Georgia, who often donate a certain amount of specific literature.
Since 1939 the Storage Part of the Library was known as a Fundamental Library, though in 2002 it has been transformed into an educational-scientific library.
In 1970 was established a referential Bibliographic section where scientific work is held.
