In the summer of 2024, the University of Theatre and Film Arts (SZFE), in collaboration with the National Theatre of Hungary and the University of Sopron, jointly organized the International Theatre Workshop – Sopron 2024, held from June 22 to 30. This intensive nine-day creative program brought together Hungarian and international acting students on the University of Sopron campus, where they worked alongside distinguished Hungarian and foreign directors and instructors.
The workshop aimed to foster international collaboration among students from various theatre schools, enabling them to engage in joint training sessions and creative processes, explore one another’s theatrical traditions and methodologies, and develop new forms of artistic cooperation.
The University of Theatre and Film Arts in Budapest invited 11 students and 2 faculty members from the Shota Rustaveli Theatre and Film Georgia State University (TAFU). As part of the program, the Georgian students presented a one-hour performance showcasing their work.
The project featured daily training sessions and rehearsals. Each day, students participated in two work sessions: a morning session dedicated to professional training with instructors, and an evening session where mixed groups of 15–20 students collaborated under the guidance of student directors. The workshop concluded with a series of short performances by the participants, each 20 to 25 minutes in length, based on William Shakespeare’s A Midsummer Night’s Dream.
From TAFU, Tinatin Katamashvili, Assistant Professor and acting teacher, conducted 10 masterclasses in Psychotechniques and Creative Skills, and Mariam Kobakhidze, Assistant Professor and speech teacher, led 10 masterclasses in stage speech for drama students. Through this international program, students were exposed to diverse theatrical practices and pedagogies, enriching their artistic experience and professional development.
